The various societal responses to DV.


I believe you know that  DV is short form for domestic violence.


And you know what domestic violence means.


Men beating thier wives, girlfriends. Its mostly against women.




So, what the question is asking, is


As all these violence against women  is happening, how do we as men see it, how do government, through the police see it, how does our society see it?

And also, what are we and government doing to put an end to it.

 That's what the societal reaction mean.





So, if you see it in exam, how to awsnser the question. Begin by stating how its seen and the effort  of government or organisations in the fight against  DV.

I. African society: our men, see domestic violence as a normal thing. African men believe that  they have the right to beat thier wives to command obedience and respect. Whenever she reports the abuse to  family members, they would start telling her to behave herself and respect  her husband, that he is lord over her. That its her fault.


Ii. Police: when a woman is brutalised by her husband, then  reports to the police. The police often  regard it as a family, private matter which should be resolved at home.


III. Domestic violence is reinforced by cultural values and beliefs that are repeatedly
communicated through the media and other societal institutions that tolerate it. The
